November/December Author Showcase: Marissa Meyer and Alex London

In December, 7th and 8th graders skyped with the author of the Cinder Series, Marissa Meyer.  She gave great advice on becoming a successful writer.  Marissa said to improve writing, "Just write and write and write a lot."  She gave great advice on becoming a successful writer.  Marissa said to improve writing, "Just write. And write a lot!"  She told us she did a lot of research on Asian cultures and science to write Cinder and her other books.  Meyer said if she were to do another fairytale, it would be "Bluebeard."  Bluebeard is about a wealthy aristocrat who is feared and shunned.  He persuades the youngest of two sisters to marry him.  Bluebeard tells his new wife not to go to a room downstairs, but curiousity kills her so she goes to the room.  In there, she finds the bodies of his ex-wives.  Sounds like Marissa could write a good story on that tale! Meyer told us that she loves to write fantasy based on stories.  She enjoys sorcery, swords, and dragons.  Her other favorites are contemporary, action, adventure, and romance.  Marissa also loves to write what inspires her.  She said, "She finds inspiration anywhere, such as articles, newspapers, song lyrics, and signs."  She carries a notebook with her just in case!  Marissa Meyer is an inspiring person.  She has written very successful books and has many fans of her work!  Find Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Fairest in our classroom library!
